Chaddy took to the hills on a beautiful July evening to play Manchester League outfit Springhead AFC. It was a fantastic backdrop for a game of football but failed to inspire a winning result for us. The team was a different eleven again to the one which had lost to Denton Town on Saturday, being again a mixture of first team regulars, reserve players and trialists. Springhead settled quicker than Chaddy, and despite the hardworking attempts of Sam Gibson to set the Chadderton attack up, we missed several good chances and had a very good penalty claim turned down. Missing chances at one end means only one thing in football; you will concede, and so we did, to two very decent finishes which brought us to the interval 2 goals down. Manager Mark Howard swopped Danny Havern for Mike Smith in goal at half-time and  made use of rolling substitutions throughout the second half as Chaddy attempted to force their way back into the game. It wasn't to be however, and Springhead came closest to netting in the second half with a shot that hit the bar, Leon Iluobe shooting wide from the edge of the box with Chadderton's best chance.
