Denton Town FC

Chadderton FC

Sat 22 Jul 2017 | Pre-Season Friendly | Away

Wright Robinson College M18 8RL

On another hot afternoon at Wright Robinson College we had another 90 minutes of pre-season fitness playing Denton Town FC from the Cheshire League. The two teams shared 5 goals, with Denton winning the game 2-3.

Chadderton for the second Saturday running had only 11 players, so weren't able to make any changes over the course of the game, which featured a much changed side from the last match at WRC on Tuesday night v GNE. Dale Minor, Luke Heron, Scott Foster, Sam Gibson, Devon Matthews and Nathan Quinlan formed the basis of the team again which played Denton with regulars from last season Mike Smith and Arron Scholes also back.

Chaddy were fast out of the blocks again in what turned out to be another game of two halves for us. Sam Gibson with a neat finish from a Nathan Quinlan assist, and then a well executed direct free-kick into the bottom left hand corner from Scott Foster appeared to have set us on our way but it wasn't to be. Denton got themselves back into the game second half, and with tempers rising in the July heat, Scott Foster was dismissed after a scuffle. Chaddy struggled then to recover from that, and Denton made the man advantage pay limiting us to only a few chances, the pick of which was a Sam Gibson effort which went very close. On a positive note it was excellent to see our POTY 2017 goalkeeper Mike Smith get 90 minutes pre-season, he must have been not far away from getting the league award last season. We move on now to a game on Tuesday night, 7pm versus Springhead AFC. This game is AWAY, at their St John's Street ground and should be a great game.
