Chaddy again faced opposition from a higher division when we welcomed Ashton Athletic FC to Wright Robinson College for our second pre-season friendly there last night. Mark Howard was back on the sidelines for this clash, and there were a few more faces in the Chadderton squad allowing us to make rolling changes as the game went on.

Chaddy started brightly as the first half became a half of two halves. The first 20 minutes Chaddy more than held their own and seemed in little trouble, then followed a mad 15 or 20 mins before the break when we conceded 5 goals in relative quick sucession. The first goal for our visitors was a brilliant finish ; a volley that looped over Chaddy keeper Danny Havern and into the net. The second goal for Ashton seemed clearly offside, but the goal stood and suddenly it was a different game. Three more goals followed for Ashton before the whistle blew for the break and Mark Howard could have a chance to talk to the players.

The half-time talk from Tank seemed to give Chaddy confidence and belief again, and we came out of the blocks with a lot more purpose and cutting edge. A foul on Leon Iluobe led to a penalty which was cooly converted by Sam Gibson, who had a very good game again. A second Chaddy goal soon followed pulling back the arrears again, but Ashton broke and scored again making it 2-6 at the final whistle.

There were again lots of positives to draw from the game for the boss, good performances again from Dale Minor, Chris Pauley, Sam Gibson amongst others. Another 90 minutes completed and in the bank towards the coming season and with still some players to come back we move on to Saturday 22nd July where we welcome Denton Town for the short trip to Wright Robinson and another test for us.
