Sacred Heart FC

Chadderton FC

Tue 1 Aug 2017 | Pre-Season Friendly | Away

Belfield Mill Lane

Chadderton came out of the blocks at a great tempo at Belfield Mill Lane and set about taking the game to Manchester League Premier Division champions Sacred Heart FC. The whole team was impressive with again Dale Minor and Sam Gibson playing exceptionally well. Chaddy were good for the 0-2 lead thet held just before half-time with goals from Luke Heron and Mikey Moss giving us a deserved advantage. This lead was cut in half on the stroke of half-time when keeper Mike Smith pulled off a great save but then was judged to have brought the RSHFC player down in the aftermath. The penalty was slotted away and the half-time result stood at 1-2.

Brian Clough used to say a two goal advantage was the worst lead to have, and so it proved for us. Manager Mark Howard had used the break to make a few changes and  give a couple of players some game time but almost immediately after the restart  RSHFC profited from 2 defensive lapses in the Chaddy back line to turn the game around on its head. This meant the more that Chadderton tried to impose ourselves on the game and chase it, we were left open to breaks from RSHFC, and this was the case with RSHFC scoring twice more to make it 5-2. Chadderton never gave up trying to get back into the game and it was Leon Iluobe who reduced the deficit with a fine left foot finish into the right hand corner, but sadly Chaddy had run out of time and the game finished 5-3 to the home side.
